Jhapa outplay APF to claim football title

Rum Pum Jhapa-XI thrashed Nepal APF Club 3-0 to claim the title of the Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta Gold Cup here today.

Champions Jhapa pocketed Rs 401,000, while runners-up APF got Rs 201,000. Jhapa took the lead in the 77th minute after APF’s Top Bista scored an own goal while trying to clear a shot of Bishal Rai.

Karna Limbu doubled the tally in the 90th minute and he made it 3-0 in the fourth minute of added time. Jhapa’s Bishal Rai was named the man-of-the-match and got Rs 5,000 from Mechi Netralaya.

Jhapa coach Sanjay Rai said his side became champions because of proper coordination among his players. APF coach Ratnakaji Maharjan said his side lacked the coordination. Jhapa’s Yogesh Gurung was named the best player of the tournament and got Rs 25,000, while Karna Limbu was the highest scorer and received Rs 15,000. A total of eight teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan competed in the event organised by Kakarvitta Football Training Centre.
