Sahara enter semi-finals

Pokhara, January 23

Hosts Sahara Club advanced to the semi-finals of the 14th Aaha-Rara Gold Cup Football Tournament with a 2-0 victory over United Sikkim Football Club here at the Pokhara Stadium on Saturday.

Elvis and Shiva Subedi scored for the home team. Elvis provided the lead to the hosts in the 59th minute through a header following a pass from Buddha Lama. Man-of-the-match Subedi put the issue beyond doubt in the 88th minute when he collected a pass from Shiva Shrestha and slammed home.

Sahara coach Kiran Shrestha was happy with the result. “Players converted the chances they created which made us easy to register the victory. Sikkim United were a tough team and it was 50-50 match for both of us,” said Shrestha. Sikkim United coach Milan Lopcha was happy with the performance of the team despite the loss. “My boys could not perform to their potential as they are used to in playing on artificial turf. We created some opportunities but we failed to convert them,” Lopcha added.

On Sunday, Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club will take on Gorkha Brigade team of Indian Army.
