Samsung Golf Championship on Saturday

Kathmandu, November 3

Zohra Sports Management is organising the Samsung Golf Championship at the Gokarna Forest Resort on Saturday.

Around 100 golfers are expected in the one-day tournament sponsored by Samsung Electronics, informed the organisers at a press meet today. “We have already confirmation from 90 golfers and we are expecting 10 more by Thursday,” said Deepak Acharya, Senior Golf Director at Gokarna Forest Resort. “As we cannot accommodate more than 120 players in one-day event, we are limiting the number to 100 participants,” he added.

The tournament will be played under stableford 3/4 handicap format over 18 holes. The tournament features three categories — overall, women and junior. The champion will receive Samsung Note 5, while the women’s winner will be awarded with Samsung Gear S2 and the junior winner will get Samsung gift hamper. Apart from that, the best gross, senior winner, most birdies, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin winners will also be awarded. “The tournament also aims at developing junior golf and we would like to thank Samsung for taking the initiative,” he added.

Vice-president of Samsung Electronics Yubeom Won said they were here with an aim of supporting Nepali people increase life value. “Golf Championship is one of the best ways to deliver our message. We would like to thank Gokarna for the facilities,” Won said. “We will give continuity to the event and hopefully the event will grow in the years to come,” he added.

Managing Director of Zohra Sports Management Aaamir Akhtar said he was excited to get the opportunity to organise golf tournament in association with Samsung. “This is our first event in golf and we would like to continue with other sports also,” said Akhtar, former national cricket team member. “Being a cricketer in the past, I always love cricket. But these days I have been playing golf and tennis. This is one of the new things we are trying,” he added. “We got the support from Samsung and hopefully we will organise this event regularly,” he added.
