UPDATED: Sandeep picks five wickets, bowls five maiden overs

KATHMANDU: 17-year-old legspinner Sandeep Lamichhane has picked five wickets for Nepal in the ICC World Cricket League (Division 2) match being held against Kenya.

Team Nepal and the fans were looking for a breakthrough as Kenyan opening batsmen AA Obanda  and IA Karim headed towards a steady partnership of over 60 runs.

Kenya were batting without losing any wicket till the 16th over when Lamichhane struck his spell and ruined the party for the opening duo, bowling Obanda out in the last ball of the 17th over.

After a controlled 18th over bowling from Basanta Regmi, giving away only one run, Lamichhane then stepped in again and dismissed a hasty Gondaria right after he hit a four in the previous ball.

There was a brief wait until Regmi struck and lead the much awaited oust of opening batsmam IA Karim, who departed for 42 runs off 100 balls.

Before the team and fans could fully rejoice Karim's dismissal, the young star's back to back ace deliveries led to the middle order batsmen RR Patel and RN Patel's consecutive wickets.

Sompal Kami and Sharad Vesawkar shared a wicket each in between before 17-year-old struck again and dismissed NN Odhiambo.

Kami picked CO Obuya's wicket while Vesawkar dismissed Gurdeep Singh in the 43rd and the 44th overs respectively.

Sandeep has bowled five maiden overs of the seven he has bowled so far.
