Sankata beat United, to face Jhapa in last eight encounter

Kathmandu-based Sankata Club beat 10-man United FC Kurseong 4-2 to enter the quarter-finals of the Tuborg Bikash Running Shield International Invitational Football Tournament here at the Campachaur today.

Bishwo Adhikari and Nirajan Khadka scored a brace each for Sankata, while Sujan Gurung netted both goals for the Indian team. Sankata, who will face Jhapa XI in the last eight encounter, scored all four goals in the first half and conceded two goals after the interval.

Adhikari put Sankata ahead in the 12th minute and Khadka doubled the advantage in the 24th minute. Khadka scored his second and team’s third goal six minutes later before Adhikari made it 4-0 in the 33rd minute with his second goal of the match.

The former top flight team of Nepal went into the break with a comfortable 4-0 lead.

United FC’s Gurung scored a goal for his side in the 83rd minute and converted a penalty in the 87th minute to reduce the loss margin. United FC were reduced to 10 men after Prashant Gurung received the marching orders in the 89th minute.

Sankata’s Khadka won man-of-the-match award and received Rs 10,000. The winners of the tournament will earn Rs 300,000, while runners-up team will receive Rs 150,000.
