Sankata, NPC register wins

Lalitpur, June 15

CMG Club Sankata and Nepal Police Club (NPC) registered victories in the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Tournament here today.

Sankata edged past Ruslan Three Star Club 3-2, while NPC thrashed Saraswoti Youth Club 5-3 in the matches played at the ANFA Complex grounds.

Sankata took lead through the goal of Dipendra KC in the 18th minute, while Arjun Singh equalised for Three Star in the 27th minute. Sanjok Rai restored Sankata lead for the second time with a goal in the 37th minute. Three Star once again equalised the scores in the 78th minute through a goal from Aditya Shakya. At a time when the match was heading towards a draw Sankata earned a penalty after Kamal Thapa handled the ball inside the danger box. Suman Dangol scored from the spot to seal three points.

In the second match, NPC got off to winning start riding on a hat-trick from Alan Thapa. Kshitiz Raj GT and Sugam Karki added one each. GT put NPC ahead in the 10th minute, while Thapa added two goals in 19th and 26th minutes to put the team 3-0 ahead. Om Prakash Singh scored in the 41st minute to reduce the deficit to go into the break.

Saraswoti came as a different team in the second half and they made it 3-2 in the 49th minute when Singh found the back of the nets. Thapa completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute to restore two-goal cushion. Mingma Shrepa scored in the 64th minute to bring Saraswoti back into the match but Karki made sure NPC walk away with full three points with the team’s fifth goal in the 80th minute.

The tournament is being organised in memory of All Nepal Football Association’s the then Acting President Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who passed away on June 11 last year due to electrocution at his new residence in Bhainsepati. On Thursday, Lumbini FC will play against TAC, while MMC face Jhapa XI.
