Satdobato Youth Club defeated Jawalakhel Youth Club 4-2 on penalties and advanced to the quarter-finals of the fifth Jhapa Gold Cup here on Saturday.
The opening match of the tournament was decided in tie-breaker after both the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 in regulation period.
Martins Kayode Ajayi and Ashish Rai scored one goal each for Satdobato, while OngunaNkengue Junior netted a brace for Jawalakhel. In tie-breaker, Akash Budha Magar, Prashant Awasthi, skipper Man Bahadur Tamang and Ajayi converted their shots for Satdobato.
Satdobato goalkeeper Abhishek Baral saved shots from Junior and Suraj Jeu Thakuri, while Rajendra Rawal and Gaurav Shrestha scored for Jawalakhel. Satdobato custodian Baral was named the player of the match and he earned Rs 9,999. On Sunday, Nepal Police Club will take on Sankata Club.
A total of 10 teams, including two from India, are taking part in the tournament. Top two teams will receive Rs 1.25 million and Rs 650,000 respectively. Earlier, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the tournament.
