KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued the short-term interim order to maintain the status quo at the National Sports Council.

Responding to a writ petition filed by Ramesh Kumar Silwal, the single bench of Justice Hari Phuyal issued the order stopping the implementation of cabinet decision to appoint Tanka Lal Ghising as the Member Secretary of the NSC. The Cabinet had removed Silwal from the post on October 18 and appointed Ghising, on recommendation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, on November 29.

The Supreme Court has asked both Silwal and Ghising to be present at the court on December 27 for further discussions. The cabinet dismissed Ramesh Kumar Silwal following the change of guard in the government.

Silwal was appointed by KP Oli-led government for the second time in July last year. He was first appointed for the post in July 2019 but went on to lose the post following the implementation of the Sports Development Act after successfully hosting the 13th South Asian Games.
