Shahi claims veterans’ title

Subha Ratna Shahi claimed the veterans’ (above 35) singles title beating Soviet Man Shrestha
6-3, 6-3 at the King’s Birthday Cup Open Tennis Tournament. In men’s doubles final, the duo of Shree Ram Rana Magar and Manoj Rana defeated Kumar Adhikari and Jeetendra Pariyar 6-4, 6-3. The win earned them Rs 5,000 each while the runners-up got Rs 2,500 each. In veterans’ doubles final, the duo of Subarna Dhakpa and Krishna Ghale overwhelmed the duo of Chandra Shahi and Soviet Man Shrestha 6-2, 6-3. The tournament features nine categories
and the remaining finals between — Shree Ram Magar and Kumar Adhikari (men’s singles); Priti Rizal and Vindiya Dayananda (women’s singles); Amul Regmi and Gaurav Shah (junior boys); Saloni Lama and Saloni Pandey (junior girls); and Kamal Thapa and Manoj Rana (Veterans’ above 45 singles) are slated for Saturday. The duo of Chandra Shahi and Vindiya Dayananda have already won the mixed doubles title on Tuesday. Shree Ram Rana Magar and Renu Bajracharya’s pair finished second. The event has been organised by All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association to mark the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra.
