Shahi, Ghale in final

Kathmandu, August 3:

Krishna Ghale and Chandra Shahi advanced to the above 35 section final of the Nepal Open Senior Veterans’ Tennis Tournament on Friday. Ghale defeated Binod Kayastha in straight sets of 6-2, 6-4 whereas Ghale outplayed Rajesh Chhetri 6-0, 7-5.

In above 45 quarters, Kamal Thapa defeated Gyanendra Tamrakar 6-0, 6-2 and set up a semi-final clash against Subarna Dhakwa, who beat Prithvi Thakali 6-0, 6-2. Manoj Rana beat Karma Gurung 6-3, 3-6, (10-5) in tie-breaker and will face Deepak Shrestha, who beat Chya-mba Dhondup 6-1, 6-3.

The semis are slated for Thursday and the finals will be held on Friday.

MPC, TAC win

KATHMANDU: Mahendra Police Club and Tribhuvan Army Club entered the men’s final of the Birthday Cup Open Volleyball Tournament, which has been organised by Nepal Volleyball Association. The armymen beat Kaski District Volleyball Association

25-20, 25-15, 25-19 wheres the policemen downed Gyanendra APF Officers’ Club 25-11, 25-11, 25-16. TAC’s Deep Kumar Khadka and MPC’s Prem Bhandari were declared the man of the match.

In women’s section, Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre entered the final defeating Anal Jyoti School ‘A’ 25-12, 25-23, 25-15; and Sarvottam Tank advanced beating Anal Jyoti ‘B’ 25-9, 25-9, 25-14. JVTC’s Anju Shrestha and Sarvottam’s Yam Kumari Sherchan were adjudged the man of match.

Football tourney

KATHMANDU: Sano Gau-charan Youth Club is org-anising the sixth Sano Gaucharan Knock-out Football Tournament from Thursday. In all, 10 teams — Mahabir Club, Brigade Boys Club, Bouddha Club, Sano Gaucharan Club, Seti Opi, Brihaspati Youth Club, Gangahiti Tole Sudhar Samiti, Thapagaun Sudhar Samiti, Battisputali Club and Thapathali Nava Ayam Club — are taking part. The winners and the runners-up will recieve Rs 11,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
