Shaila wins three golds on Day II
Lalitpur, July 13:
Shaila RL Rana won three gold medals on the second day of the 14th National Open and ninth Galaxy Cup swimming championship here today.
Shaila, who broke the national record in the 200m free style on Wednesday, won the 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle — all three in open section.
Shaila finished the 200m individual medley in three minutes 01.15 seconds, leaving behind Karishma Karki (3.1.91) and Oshin Bharati (3.10.81), while she won the 100m backstroke in one minute 24.85 seconds, followed by Suzanna Shakya (1.28.72) and Karishma Karki (1.28.94).
Shaila finished first in 100m freestyle with the timings of one minute 13.47 seconds, beating Olympian Nayana Shakya (1.15.75) and Karishma Karki (1.15.85). Shaila also won a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke event, which was won by Bibidha Rimal with the timings of 40.53 seconds, Nayana won silver in 43.63 seconds. Shaila finished the distance in 40.63 seconds.
In men’s 200m freestyle, Sailesh SJB Rana came first in two minutes 33.22 seconds, ahead of Om Bahadur Kumal (2.37.31) and Nepalu Tharu (2.40.44).
Sailesh also won the 50m butterfly gold in 30.96 seconds, followed by Alice (32.55) and Raja Ram Manandhar (32.97).
Olympian Alice Shrestha won 100m breaststroke gold in one minute 16.19 seconds, while Kisim Lal Tharu (1.21.11) and Raju Maharjan (1.22.28) came second and third respectively.
Other winners in the age-group school-level competition are Pasang Sherpa (Under-12 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly); Mahesh Jirel (Under-17 50m breaststroke); Kumari Tamang (Under-12 50m freestyle); Oshin Bharati (Under-17 50 freestyle); Gaurav Tulachan (Under-14 50m backstroke).
The final selection of the swimmers for the forthcoming 10th South Asian Games will be held after the completion of the remaining finals on Friday, said the organisers.
