Shanti beats Sanju to grab 53kg official karate title

Shanti Adhikari of Nepal Police beat Sanju Thapa of Bagmati zone in the final of the ladies’ 53kg official karate, while Devi Pun of Lumbini and Sunita Tamang of Koshi were declared joint third at the Dhirendra Memorial National Karate, Judo and Kick-boxing Tournament that concluded here on Wednesday.

In ladies’ 60kg karate, Lila Thapa of Karnali Zone and Renuka Rai of Mechi grabbed top two spots respectively, while Sunita Maharjan of Bagmati Zone beat Devi Sen of Lumbini. Ganga Maharjan of Bagmati and Prabin Rana of Koshi stood first and second in the male Kata demonstration, while Teju Gurung of Bheri and Bina Suwal of Bagmati grabbed top two spots in ladies’ kata demonstration.

Narayan Tamang of Koshi Zone, Amrit Adhikari of Bagmati grabbed top two spots in the official karate in male 55kg weight category, while Surendra Kumar Gurung and Kamal Bahadur Rasaili stood joint third.

In 60kg official karate, Deepak Shrestha of Bagmati and Kushal Shrestha finished first and second, while Bikram Meche and Ramesh Bachera finished joint third. Kamal Pokhrel of Mechi beat Subash Kumar Gurung in the final of the 65kg weight category of official karate, while Premlal Bhasima and Arun Bahadur Bhujel were declared joint third.

Rabi Maharjan of Bagmati and Rajesh Shrestha of Koshi took top two spots in the 70kg category, while Binod Shakya of Bagmati and Mangal Singh Tamang of Koshi finished first and second in the 75kg category. Raju Adhikari of Bagmati and Santosh Yakhya of Koshi stood first and second in the more than 75kg weight category of official karate.

In male kick-boxing, Buddhi Bahadur Shrestha, Dhana Singh Aale and Gopal Maharjan of Bagmati Zone stood first in 50kg, 55kg and 60kg weight category respectively, while Binita Dhamal of Mechi Zone and Manju Aale of Bagmati Zone finished first in ladies’ 50kg and 55kg kick-boxing.

In 60kg male Judo final, Narendra Dangol of Bagmati Zone beat Megh Raj Yadav of Narayani Zone, while Mohan Sunuwar of Nepal Police and Subrat Shrestha of Narayani Zone stood first and second in the 66kg category. Hari Kumar Lama of Bagmati Zone defeated Prabin Kaji Shrestha of Nepal Police in the 73kg judo final, while Shyam Barnawal of Narayani Zone and Bigyan Lama of Sagarmatha Zone stood joint third.

The tournament — which is also the selection tournament for selecting players for 14th ASIAD to be held in Busan of South Korea — was jointly organised by Nepal Karate Federation, Karate Do Academy and National Unity Council.
