Sherma, Gurung enter final

Kathmandu, December 14

Boxer Diwana Sherma of Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Minu Gurung of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) advanced to the final of the 12th South Asian Games selection tournament here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

Sherma defeated Lalita Maharjan of TAC, while Gurung beat Mala Rai of APF in the women’s 48-51kg weight category. Likewise, Saraswoti Chaudhary beat fellow APF teammate Maya Chaudhary, while Niru Gurung of TAC thumped Sulav Magar of Jhapa to make it to the 57-60kg final. In 69-75kg, Pramila Pandey of APF

entered final defeating Pabitra Gharti Magar of Rolpa, and will face Sangita Sunar, who stunned Anuradha Lama of NPC.

In men’s 49kg, Tej Bahadur Deuba beat Madan Krishna Dangol of Naxal and Ganesh Bohara from Bajura overcame Sushil Thapa of Naxal to book berth in final. Prem Chaudhary and Shakti Lama of TAC defeated Sulav Raj Bhandari of Dharan and Subash BK of TAC respectively for the final spot in 52kg. Dinesh Shrestha of NPC will fight against Arjun KC of TAC in the final after defeating Dinesh Chand of APF in semi-final 56kg clash. KC entered final after beating fellow teammate Bimal Roka Magar.

In 60kg, Dan Bahadur Darlamu of TAC and Bhupendra Thapa of NPC advanced to the final beating Kishor Sharma of Naxal and Puran Rai of APF respectively. Deepak Shrestha of TAC and Nivas Tandukar of Naxal defeated Yadhav Thapa from Rupandehi and Suresh Nepali of TAC respectively in men’s 64kg and booked final berths. In 69kg, Bikash Lama of APF and Umesh Rijal from Lalitpur advanced to the final, and will face Dipesh Lama of APF, who defeated Mahendra KC of TAC in the 75kg weight category.
