Shiva Ram misses cut
KATHMANDU: Shiva Ram Shrestha continued his misery in the second round to miss the cut at the Asia Pacific Panasonic Open at the Joyo Country Club in Kyoto, Japan, today.
Shiva Ram, the Nepal’s No 1 professional golfer, played a round of 11-over 82 on Friday for a total of 20-over 162. He had played nine-over 80 in the first round yesterday.
Shiva Ram, who went
to Japan after the two-and-half month training in
the United States, finished tied 126th overall in the
131-man field.
On Friday, Shiva Ram started with three consecutive bogeys and carded a birdie on the par-3 fourth. After saving par in the next four holes, he dropped a shot in the last hole to finish the front nine at three-over 39.
He started the back nine with an impressive birdie on the par-4 10th but his downfall started on the next hole when he failed to save par and two-putted for a bogey. Shiva Ram had a double bogey on the 12th followed by three consecutive bogeys, another double bogey on the 16th and bogey on the last hole. In total, he had two birdies, five par-putts, nine bogeys and two double bogeys in the second round.
Daisuke Maruyama lead the standing with seven-under 135, one stroke ahead of Hyung-Sung Kim. Three players — Prayad Marksaeng, Taichi Teshima and Toru Suzuki — are tied at five-under 137. A total of 63 players, with the scores up to four-over, made the cut.
Mithun Perera, an amateur golfer from Sri Lanka who finished overall second at the Surya Nepal Masters 2009 earlier this year in Kathmandu, was the golfer at the bottom of the table.
