Shrestha new NSC member secretary

Kathmandu, July 3 :

The cabinet meeting has decided to appoint Jeevan Ram Shrestha as the member secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) on Monday.

Purendra Bikram Lakhe, Sitaram Maskey and Birendra Yadav were also appointed as the board members in the council, which was dissolved after the Nepal government revoked all the appointments made by the Royal regime.

The two others members will be appoined later, said Education and Sports Minister Mangal Siddhi Manandhar.

Shrestha, who also held a brief office at the NSC as the member secretary in 1997, replaces the ministry’s joint secretary Bodh Raj Niraula, who had been working as an acting member secretary upon the ministry’s decision.

Lakhe is the coach and seretary of Nepal Karate Federation while Maskey and Yadav are the new faces in sports.

A full NSC body comprises of 19 members of which six members are appointed by the cabinet with Minister of Education and Sports being the chairman.

Secretary of Ministry of Education and Sports and joint secretary of Sports Division in the ministry are the ex officio membership.

The NSC body also include one representative each from Trihbuvan University and Mahendra Univesity while three members are nominated from the national sports associations. Each of the five Development Regions represent one member in the board.
