Shrestha shines as LRI outplay Trinity

Morgan International College, Learning Realm International School and Prime College registered their second victory in the Ncell U-18 Inter-college Basketball Tournament here today.
In the matches played at the Nepali Army Sports Complex in Lagankhel, Morgan thrashed White House International College 53-24, while LRI School defeated Trinity International College 69-45 and Prime College recorded a 54-40 victory over Ideal Model College.
Morgan opened with a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 14 points in the second period when they netted 13 against seven scored by White House.
Morgan then won the closely-fought third quarter 11-9 before scoring 13 in the final period in which White House failed to score a single point. Soharta Shah of Morgan top scored in the match with 17 points.
In another match, LRI put Trinity under pressure throughout the game with outstanding performance from Bibek Shrestha, who alone scored 46 points, on more than the team score of Trinity. LRI took a 14-11 lead in the first quarter and won the second 15-6 to take a 12-point lead midway through the match.
LRI extended the lead to 15 after they took the third quarter 16-13 and dominated the fourth and final period 24-15 to register a comprehensive win.
Likewise, Suraj Khadgi of Prime top scored in the match against Ideal Model. Both the teams scored nine points each in the first quarter before Prime opened an eight-point lead in the second period which they won 14-6. Prime extended the lead to 10 points by taking the third period 18-6 before they scored 13 points and restricted Ideal Model to nine in the final quarter.
The 16-team tournament is organised by Ncell under the auspices of Nepal Basketball Association. The teams are divided into four pools and top two each will advance to the quarter-finals after the round-robin league within the group. The final is on September 12.
