Shrestha wins Hareram Joshi Memorial Championship
Kathmandu, September 5
Shyantu Shrestha of Prime College won the U-16 boys’ singles gold medal of the 10th Hareram Joshi Memorial Open Table Tennis Championship here on Saturday.
Shrestha defeated Ritij Joshi of AVM 11-9, 11-8, 11-3 in the final at the National Table Tennis Training Centre in Lainchaur. AVM’s Dikshya Tamang had won the girls’ title on Friday.
In the open section final, Nihal Shrestha defeated Shyantu 11-9, 11-3, 10-12, 3-11, 11-7 in all-Prime match. Anju Suwal of Prabhat defeated Durga Rajbhandari of Bijeshwori 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 6-11, 14-12 in U-12 girls’ final, while Upen Parajuli of Galaxy was the winner in boys’ section. In above-40 veteran singles final, Rajendra Bajracharya defeated Kapur Sharma 11-5, 11-9, 11-9, while Udaya Mohan Shrestha beat Indra Shekhar Khadka 11-9, 11-9, 13-11 in above-50 veteran singles final.
More than 300 players participated in the two-day tournament organised by the Hareram Joshi Foundation. The championship featured seven events.
Newly-elected President of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha, General Secretary Lama Tendi Sherpa, President of All Nepal Table Tennis Association Chatura Nanda Rajbaidhya and former table tennis chief coach Ramesh Raj Joshi — son of Hareram Joshi — handed over the prizes to the winners.
