Six Nepali players earned berths in the Asian Table Tennis Championships qualifiers here today.
Nepal No 1 player in women's section Nabita Shrestha along with men's national team members Samyog Kapali, Rubin Maharjan, Binesh Khaniya, Shiva Sundar Gothe and Pradeep Rokka made it to the top 16 in the South Asian Regional Championship in Kathmandu and sealed their berths in the Asian Table Tennis Championships qualifiers.
All five players in men's section earned berths in the Asian qualifiers, while Shrestha is the lone Nepali to advance from the South Asian Regional Championship.
Other players, Elina Maharjan Evana Thapa, Rabina Maharjan and Sikka Suwal failed to finish in top 16 in the South Asian Regional Championship.
Four Nepali players had confirmed their places in top 16 on Friday, while Gothe and Rokka joined them on Saturday.
Both Gothe and Rokka lost their group matches but still made it to the last 16 from their respective pools.
Apart from five players from Nepal, four Pakistanis earned berths in last 16 along with two each from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and one from Maldives in men's section. Likewise, five each players from India and Sri Lanka qualified in women's sections along with three from Pakistan and one each from Nepal, Maldives and Bangladesh. The Asian Table Tennis Championship qualifiers is slated for January 7-13 next year in Doha.
