SEB, Newton in final

KATHMANDU: Samakhushi English Boarding (SEB) School and Newton set the championship date in the boys’ section of the ninth Annal Jyoti Running Cup Inter-school Volleyball Tournament here on Friday. SEB dispatched hosts Annal Jyoti ‘A’ 25-14, 25-10, 25-18 and Newton saw off Gyan Bigyan 25-16, 25-13, 25-8. Annal Jyoti ‘A’ finished third. Entering the final in the mini-boys’ category were Annal Jyoti ‘A’ and Newton. Annal Jyoti defeated Annal Jyoti ‘B’ 23-25, 25-16, 25-9, 25-18 and Newton beat Gyanodaya 15-25, 29-27, 25-18, 25-15, 15-12. Gyanodaya ended up third. Annal Jyoti and New Diamond have already advanced to the final of the girls’ section. — HNS

TIA beat Prithvi

KATHMANDU: Anusha Malla scored 16 points as hosts Trungram International Academy (TIA) ‘A’ defeated Prithvi School 31-20 in the girls’ section match of the seventh TIA Cup Basketball Tournament here on Friday. Prithvi School, however, saw off Awareness International Academy (AIA) 32-11 in the boys’ section riding on 18 points from Kumar Tamang. In other boys’ matches, Golden Peak edged past Neric 55-47, Daffodil eased to a comfortable 36-12 win over TIA ‘B’, Greenland overcame Gyan Niketan 57-50, Paragon defeated EPS 38-27, Learning Realm International (LRI) thrashed Grand Academy 61-37, and TIA ‘A’ overwhelmed Himalayan School 73-26.
