Kumar, Hari advance
LALITPUR: Kumar Adhikari and Hari Hayu advanced to the men’s singles semi-finals of the 10th Investment Bank Open Tennis Tournament here on Tuesday. Kumar defeated Chhewang Lama 6-2, 6-3 and Hari sidelined Pratap Moktan 7-5, 6-1 to book their last four berths. Raju Chhetri and Jitendra Pariyar will meet in the other semi-final after winning their respective matches. Raju won the first set against Santosh Khatri 6-4 but the latter pulled out of the match following a cramp in his muscles. Meanwhile, Jitendra overcame Gaurav Shah 6-2, 6-2. Priti Rijal beat Srija Karki 6-2, 6-3 to reach women’s singles semi-finals. Rajesh Chhetri, Sobhit Man Basnet, Kamal Thapa and Harbendra Singh Chaddha entered veterans (above 35yrs) semi-finals while Uttam Thapa, Sushil Pandey, Dinesh Tuladhar, Jhyangboo Dhondup, Bikash Rana and Kamal Thapa reached the veterans singles (above 45yrs) quarter-finals.
Vaishnavi triumph
KATHMANDU: Vaishnavi, Chakrapath Simol United and Youth Forum won their respective matches at the first Valleywide Seven-A-Side Football Tournament here on Tuesday. A solitary goal from Dava Thing gave Baishnavi a 1-0 win over Iti Football Club while Chakrapath struggled to a 2-1 win over Nakkhu Tol. Bijaya Lama and Simra Gurung struck for the winners while Naveen Rai replied for Chakrapath. In another match, Youth Forum overcame Unique Boys 4-2 following one goal each from Jitendra Maharjan, Alex Maharjan, Johas Maharjan and Johan. Bhagat Majhi and Karma Lama scored one goal apiece for the Unique Boys.
