Rai overtakes Tsering

Kathmandu, March 17

Sukra Bahadur Rai finished one stroke ahead of Tenzing Tsering after the final round of the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at the Laguna Lang Co Golf Club in Danang, Vietnam today.

Rai shot a six-over 77 on the final day to post the 54-hole total of 19-over 232 and shared the 52nd position with Phaiboon Phumkliang (83) of Thailand at the total score of 19-over 232, while Tsering was a shot back at joint 54th after he faltered to a 10-over 81 in the third and final round. Tsering was tied with India’s Tvesa Malik (73) and Huang Kuan Hsun (82) of Chinese Taipei.

Tsering was leading Rai by three strokes after the first two rounds. Rai was 15th in the boys’ U-18 category that featured 19 players, while Tsering finished 17th in boys’ U-16 category participated in by 21 players. Rai and Tsering had earned the berths in the tournament after winning their respective age-category titles in the Faldo Series Nepal Championship organised jointly by Nepal Golf Association and Gokarna Forest Resort in September last year.

Napat Paramacharoenroj of Thailand won the tournament with the total score of eight-under 205 after he carded a three-under 68 in the final round. Jonathan Wijono of Indonesia was second at 206, while Australia’s Daniel Gale (69) was third at six-under 207. First-round leader Mohammad Rasel (70) of Bangladesh finished fourth at 208.
