Sunny Patel takes five for as Patriots beat Gladiators by six wickets

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Patriots spinner Sunny Patel took five wickets to inflict six wickets defeat to Bhairahawa Gladiators during Everest Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament at TU Cricket Stadium in Kathmandu, on Sunday.

Patriot's skipper Gyanendra Malla won the toss and invited Gladiators to take the first strike. However, Sarad Vesawkar's Gladiators rattled by Sunny Patel five for managed to muster a paltry 92 runs all out in 19 overs. Patriots cantered to victory with six wickets in hand and 34 balls to spare.

RN ten Doeschate top-scored for the Gladiators with run-a-ball 37 balls including three fours and a six. Man of the match Sunny Patel was a pick of the bowler with 4-0-12-5.

In reply, Patriots made a disastrous start as they lost opener Gaurav Tomar cheaply for nine runs and at one stage, were reeling for 24/3 inside four overs.

Skipper Malla departed cheaply for four runs before Kusal Bhurtel followed him to pavilion after a couple of overs.

Opener Jaikishan Kolsawala and Sandeep Jhora combined for 32 runs for fifth wicket partnership to take their team home in a low scoring thriller. Jhora hit a glorious cover drive to secure an empathic victory against the inform Gladiators in style.
