Surendra wins 100m title

Surendra Thanet of Nepal Police finished the 100m race in 11.10 seconds to win the men’s title at the Birthday Cup Open Athletics Championship organised by Nepal Amateur Athletics Association. Gopal KC (11.20) and Ganesh Tamang (11.35) came second and third. In junior men’s section 100m race, Ramesh Chaudhary (11.87), Arjun Gurung (12.18) and Sagar Lopchan (12.39) grabbed the top three spots. Chandra Kala Thapa of Nepal Police won the women’s 100m, followed by Bina Shrestha (13.29) and Sabitri Nepali (13.50). In women’s junior section 100m, Arpana Rai (15.30), Samjhana Karki (15.37) and Manisha Bogati (15.67) finished first, second and third respectively. Tribhuvan Army Club’s Pratap Chand (1:55.95) and Prem Bahadur Mahat (1:56.47), and Nepal Police’s Yam Narayan Shrestha (1:59.78) won the top three spots in men’s 800m, while Chhaya Khatri (2:34.60), Manju Kunwar (2:59.72) and Mary Thapa (3:02.13) did so in women’s section. Bhaktapur’s Radhe Shyam Kawa (4:21.86) defeated Armed Police Force’s Tirtha Raj Oli (4:38.60) and Kisan Khatri of Rainbow Academic Homes (5:07.54) in the junior men’s 1500m.

In women’s 5,000m, Nirmala Bharati (18:47.14) beat past fellow Nepal Police athlete Bishnu Kafle (19:43.35), while Yangdi Sherpa came third in 22:10.95 seconds. In men’s 10,000m race, Yam Bahadur Pudasaini (31:21.81), Arjun Basnet (31:25.47) and Uttam Khatri (31:34.54) grabbed the top three spots respectively. Nepal Police’s Bina Shrestha won the women’s long jump with a distance of 4-metre 57-cm followed by Sabitri Nepali (4.55) and Chandra Kala Thapa (4.53), while Surendra Basnet of Nepal Police (6.50) bagged the men’s section long jump title with TAC’s Yuvraj Giri (6.41) and Ganesh Tamang of Nepal Police (5.82) finising second and third. Tribhuvan Army Club’s Dhirendra Jung Shah came first in men’s javelin throw with a distance of 61.09 metres, while Narendra Jung Shah of Nepal Police (60.56) and Khursed Ahmed Khan (58.02) came second and third respectively. In all, 130 athletes took part in the one-day event held at Dasharath Stadium. Member secretary of National Sports Council Kishor Bahadur Singh gave away prizes to the winners.
