KATHMANDU, JANUARY 14
The second tournament of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025–26, the Surya Nepal Eastern Open, is beginning today at the Dharan Golf Club, one of the premier golfing venues in Koshi Province.
Sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd., the championship will be played over 54 holes across three days and carries a total prize purse of Rs 1.05 million. The winner will take home Rs 170,000, while the runner-up and third-place finisher will receive Rs 125,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively. Prize money will be shared among players finishing in the top 18 positions.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday, January 17, with a Pro-Am event, giving amateur golfers a chance to partner with professionals.
A total of 29 professional golfers and 22 amateurs with handicaps of five or below are competing in the event. Defending champion and current Order of Merit leader Niraj Tamang headlines the field and will have the advantage of home support. Other top contenders include Sukra Bahadur Rai, Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Dinesh Prajapati, Jayaram Shrestha, Sanjay Lama, and Dhana Thapa.
After 36 holes, the field will be cut, with the top 18 professionals and amateurs advancing to the final round.
The Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025–26 features eight tournaments with a combined prize pool of Rs 8 million, reaffirming its status as Nepal's leading professional golf circuit. Known for its tree-lined fairways and demanding shot-making, Dharan Golf Club is expected to provide a challenging and exciting test for the players.
