Suryodaya, Valley Public in final

Kathmandu, May 6:

Defending champions Valley Public and Suryodaya School will fight for the championship after winning their respective girls’ section semi-final matches at the third Kwik’s Greenland Inter-school Basketball Tournament here today.

In the first semi-final, Valley Public edged out Prithivi School 12-9. The first two quarters turned out to be crucial for the defending champions as they scored four and five points while restricting Prithivi to three and nil . Although Prithivi school improved their game in the last two quarters they could not prevent their defeat.

Prithivi scored two and four in the last two quarters containing Valley Public to nil and three. Sujata Rai contributed seven points for the defending champions.

In another semi-final, Suryodaya cruised to a 30-12 win over Trungram International Academy (TIA). Suryodaya scored 13 and eight points and restricted TIA to three and naught in the first two quarters.

TIA hardly threatened Suryodaya despite scoring nine points in the third quarter. Suryodaya collected four in the third quarter before adding five points in the final quarter. TIA were unable to even score a point in the final quarter. Mrinalini Shrestha alone netted 15 points for Suryodaya School.

Likewise, TIA and Mount Glory advanced to the boys’ section final. TIA overcame Manjugokscha 25-11 and Mount Glory ousted Valley Public 35-32. Ashish Shahi contributed seven for TIA while Alin KC netted 11 points for Mount Glory.
