Swimmer Shakya sets new national mark

Nepali swimmer Tisha Shakya set new national record in the women’s 100m breaststroke at the 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Monday.
Shakya clocked one minute and 26.13 seconds to complete the distance and finished seventh among eight participants in the Heat2. She eclipsed Gaurika Singh’s record of one minute and 26.72 seconds. Singh had set the mark during the 20th National Open Swimming Tournament held in 2015 in Kathmandu.
Shakya was 52nd among the 53 participants in heat rounds. She will swim in 200m freestyle on Tuesday, while Sofia Shah is scheduled to take part in 100m freestyle on Thursday and 50m freestyle on Saturday.
On Sunday, Anubhav Subba set the new national record in 50m butterfly, while Shuvam Shrestha broke the mark in 100m breaststroke. Subba is scheduled to swim in men’s 100m freestyle on Wednesday, while Shuvam Shrestha will swim in 50m breaststroke event on Saturday.
