Swimmers Shakya, Shah set national records

Tisa Shakya and Alexander Shah set national records in the sixth FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, USA today.

Shakya set new mark in the girls’ 100m breaststroke by clocking one minute and 26.01 seconds in Heat1. Shakya improved on her own mark of one minute and 26.13 seconds set during the 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary last month.

However, Shakya finished third among six participants in the Heat1 and came 51st among 54 swimmers in her category.

Similarly, Akshara Singh, who also competed in the same heat along with Shakya, clocked one minute and 32.46 seconds and finished fifth in the Heat1 and came 53rd in overall ranking.

Meanwhile, Shah broke boys’ 50m freestyle national record after he took 26.18 seconds to complete the distance in Heat1. He eclipsed Chitra Bahadur Gurung’s timing of 26.39 seconds. Shah came first in Heat1 and was 75th among 83 participants.

Similarly, Gaurav Maharjan took 33.54 seconds and came last among four participants in Heat1 and also finished at the bottom in overall standing.
