Taekwondo ace Sangina set to retire

KATHMANDU: Taekwondo ace Sangina Baidya, the most celebrated player in Nepal’s sports history, is all set to announce her retirement on Sunday.

Sangina, who last played her competitive match in the South Asian Games in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006, is scheduled to announce her formal retirement

at a ceremony during the fourth Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship. Vaidhya Organisation is honouring Sangina with a car.

The taekwondo queen, who participated in the 2004 Athens Olympics, is the first Nepali sportsperson to qualify for the Olympics. Sangina, currently a coach at the Tribhuvan Army Club, is also slated to address a press meet on Sunday. — HNS
