Taekwondo team to go to China

Lalitpur, February 1

A six-member Nepali team is on Friday leaving for China to participate in the Kunming Open International Taekwondo Championship slated for February 3-5 in Kunming.

Arun Rana Magar will fight in men’s below-58kg weight category, while Anish Kadim Limbu will take part in below-74kg section. Likewise, Ratna Kaji Maharjan will participate in men’s poomsae.

International Referee Pabin Thapa, coach Anish Maharjan and team manager Mani Raj Bista, who is also the president of Lalitpur District Taekwondo Association, will accompany the players to China. Players from 23 nations are taking part in the championship.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Sumeru Group Bharat Maharjan, who was nominated as the Vice-president of Nepal Taekwondo Association on Tuesday, and NTA State No 3 President Keshav Puri among others bade farewell to the team and also handed over track suits to the participants. Maharjan wished luck to the team and also announced a surprise package to the medal winners.

At a separate programme, Bluebird Secondary School of Lalitpur bade farewell to International Referee Pabin Thapa, who is ECA in-charge at the school. Thapa will conduct matches in China.
