KATHMANDU, JULY 18

Nepali golfer Subash Tamang made a mediocre start, while Sadbhav Acharya faltered in the opening round of the Singapore Open Amateur Championship at the par-73 Orchid Country Club today.

Tamang opened the campaign with even-par 73 but his teammate Acharya struggled to nine-over 82. Tamang shared the 23rd position with two golfers, while Acharya was tied for 62nd place wit three players. Thailand's Jiradech Chaowarat carded seven-under 66 to take onestroke lead over Nguyen Anh Minh and Marcus Lim.

Nepal No 1 amateur Tamang began the day from the 10th tee and he carded one-under 36 on his front nine. He saved pars on eight holes and carded a birdie on the 15th before taking the turn. He played one-over 37 on the back nine after he faced a double bogey and two bogeys. Subash dropped two shots on the fifth and faced bogeys on the second and sixth holes against birdies on the first, fourth and ninth.

Acharya, who pulled his muscles during training in Bangalore and could not recover fully, faltered to fourover 40 on the front nine and added five-over 42 on the latter half. He faced four straight bogeys from the second, while Acharya suffered six bogeys on the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes on the back nine. His lone birdie of the day came on the 17th hole.

In the team event, Nepali golfers Tamang and Acharya posted nine-over 155 and they shared the 10th position with Singapore3. Philippines1 are at the top with the score of nine-under 137.
