KATHMANDU: Shirish Foundation on Sunday felicitates its second scholar, boxer Sushma Tamang for her historic achievement in the ASBC Asian U-22 Boxing Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.

Shirish Foundation President Sapana Gurung handed over Rs 25,000 to Tamang, who won silver medal in the Championship last week. Olympian Sangina Baidhya, former chief coaches of National Sports Council Sushil Narshing Rana (athletics) and Prachanda Sharma (boxing) were also present on the occasion.

The Foundation had signed one-year contract with Tamang in August last year. The eighth and ninth National Games gold medallist, Tamang created history in Thailand after she became the first Nepali boxer to advance to the final of the Asian-level championship.

She defeated opponents from Vietnam and Mongolia on her way to final before losing to Uzbekistan boxer. The 12th and 13th South Asian Games gold medal winner wushuka Nima Gharti Magar is the first scholar of Shirish Foundation, established by Olympian swimmer Shirish Gurung.
