Tamang wins title; APF beat NDA in volleyball final

Kathmandu, March 16

Tribhuvan Army Club’s Ratnajit Tamang won the men’s singles title of the 14th Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Championship here at the Nepal APF Club today.

In the final match, Tamang defeated Nepal APF Club’s Dipesh Dhami 22-20, 21-11. Tamang and Dhami earned Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. Nangshal Tamang had won the women’s singles title.

Meanwhile, TAC’s Pranav Khanal and Nepal Police Club’s Mayanka Rana won the singles titles of the 10th Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Championship.

In men’s final match, Khanal outplayed Lalitpur’s Jitendra Pariyar 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. In women’s final, Rana saw off her sister and teammate Mahika Rana 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The winners and runners-up in both men and women categories got Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

Likewise, APF defeated Shivam New Diamond Academy in straight sets to win the APF IG fifth Open Women’s Volleyball Tournament. APF registered a of 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 victory over NDA in the final. NPC thrashed TAC 25-12, 25-13, 25-13 to claim third position.

Top three teams received Rs 250,000, Rs 125,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively, while APF’s Binita Budhathoki was named the best player of the tournament and got a scooter.

APF’s Nebika Chaudhary, Saraswoti Chaudhary and Manisha Tamang were adjudged the best spiker, blocker and defender respectively, while NDA’s Pratibha Mali got the best server’s award and her teammate Kripa Adhikari was named the best setter. APF’s Gyanendra Bahadur Bista was named the best coach. The individual award winners got Rs 5,000 apiece.

Nepal APF IG Singha Bahadur Shrestha, Nepal Badminton Association President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha, All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association President Jyoti Rana and Nepal Volleyball Association President Manoranjan Raman Sharma handed over the prizes to the winners.
