SINGAPORE: Singapore businessman Dan Tan has been re-arrested just a week after being released following more than two years in detention on suspicion of coordinating a global soccer match-fixing syndicate.

Singapore police said on Wednesday that 51-year-old Tan, also known as Tan Seet Eng, was arrested late Tuesday for “involvement in criminal activities.”

He was previously released from jail last Wednesday when the country’s highest court ruled he was being held unlawfully.

“The police confirmed that they have arrested Dan Tan on December 1 for investigations into suspected involvement in criminal activities.

Investigations are ongoing,” the police statement said. Hamidul Haq, one of Tan’s Lawyers, told The Associated Press he was yet to learn of the specific charges relating to the new arrest.
