Thailand FA president receives suspended 1-year jail term

BANGKOK: A Bangkok criminal court has sentenced Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi to a suspended jail term of one year and four months for forgery during his election in 2013.

The court gave the same suspended sentence to former FAT secretary general Ong-art Korsinka on Wednesday.

Worawi told local media he will appeal.

Worawi, a former FIFA executive member, and Ong-art were found guilty of falsifying documents to amend the FAT statutes in the election he won, and which extended his presidency since 2007.

Because the duo were first-time offenders, the court reduced their sentence from two years in jail and a fine of 6,000 baht ($173), to 16 months and 4,000 baht.
