KATHMANDU: Sagar Singh Thakuri of Koteshwor Dojang won gold medal on the opening day of the Kathmandu Metropolis Open Taekwondo Tournament here on Saturday.
Thakuri defeated Ranjit Tamang of Nuwakot in men's 50kg section final.
Deepak Singh Sitaula of Koteshwor and Afaan Shrestha of Sunsari came third. Also, Jibesh Jung Shahi of Banke beat Ashish Majhi of Chandani in below-34kg final, while Ashok Tamang of Nuwakot and Rajan Karmacharya of Tokha came third. In women's section, Selly Gurung of Chandragiri beat Riti Rajkoti of Banke in below-31kg final, while Ritika Thapa and Yangjum Sherpa finished third. Also, Anu Thapa of Banke and Asha Shahi of Neware won gold and silver respectively in below-37kg category.
A total of 600 players are taking part in the tournament.
