The All Nepal Football Association today appointed Kumar Thapa as the national women's team head coach for the sixth SAFF Women's Championship.
The former national team midfielder, Thapa will be handling the women's team for the second time. He was the head coach of the team during the fourth edition of the championship held in India. Nepal had failed to make it to the final for the first time in the fourth edition.
The Nepal APF Club coach, Thapa has also completed the UEFA MIP–II, Executive Master for International Players course.
Nepal are yet to win the trophy despite making it to finals four times, losing to five-time champions India on all occasions. All seven teams from South Asian countries will take part in the sixth edition of the championship slated for September 6-19 in Kathmandu. The ANFA also appointed former Women's Association President Bindra Dewan as team manager.
Meanwhile, the ANFA formed an 18-member Organising Committee headed by Senior Vice-president Bir Bahadur Khadka. All four vice-presidents and 13 members of the executive committee are the members of the Organising Committee.
The ANFA also nominated Rabindra Chand as Venue Manager, Vijay Ghale as Local General Coordinator, and Dinesh Byanjankar as Secutiry Head. The second board meeting of the ANFA was expected to take necessary decisions regarding the tournament but President Pankaj Bikram Nembang had to postpone the meeting indefinitely after a group of office bearers refused to sign the minute for attendance and also created problems in conducting the meeting.
