Thapa honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Nepal Sports Journalists Forum honoured former professional golfer Ghana Shyam Thapa with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Pulsar Sports Award 2073.
Thapa, who started golf as a ballboy at the age of 10, became professional golfer before becoming a coach. Thapa is also the founder President of Nepal Professional Golfers Association.
Thapa became manager of Royal Nepal Golf Club when he was a school student and went to Delhi for training after School Leaving Certificate examination in 1968.
He also got chance to play professional golf in India and represented Nepal in the World Cup in 1975 and 1977.
Thapa was also a golf coach at Mumbai Presidency Golf Club in India and got chance to train golfers in Germany as well.
Thapa, who organises Ghana Shyam Open, is planning to organise the Golden Jubilee tournament.
Thapa thanked his wife Sushila and NSJF. “I also want to thank and remember the then Prince Basundhara Shah for his support,” said Thapa, who said that playing World Cup for second time was the most memorable moment in his life.
Thapa received the trophy and Rs 50,000. NSJF President Mahesh Acharya and General Secretary Prakash Timalsina handed over the trophy to Thapa.
