Thapa wins golf crown

Kathmandu, May 5

Hari Thapa won the title of the RNGC Monsoon Mania Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the 14-handicapper Thapa accumulated 43 points to win the trophy. Sanyog Shahi came second with 41 points and he also claimed the longest drive award.

Phuntsok N Lama won the gross section title with 33 points and also carded six birdies to claim the most birdies award. Bijay Bahadur Shrestha and Gen Prajwalla SJB Rana bagged the senior and super senior award with 33 and 38 points respectively. Likewise, Bharat Bastakoti won the closest-to-the-pin award.

A total of 55 players took part in the tournament. President of RNGC Rabindra Man Shrestha among others handed over the prizes to the winners.

Meanwhile, top 10 players of the event earned berths in qualifiers of the sixth Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup. Winner Thapa and runner-up Shahi along with Jiwan Limbu, Rabin Rana, Rishav R Acharya, Phuntsok N Lama, HB Shrestha, Bharat Bastakoti, PB Rana and Pissanu Charnfun qualified for the Nepal leg of the world amateur series slated for May 12 at the Gokarna Golf Club. The champion golfer will qualify for the Grand Finals to be held in Antalya, Turkey in November.
