Three Star, Armymen win

Kathmandu, November 10:

Nabil Three Star Club and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) registered hard-fought wins at the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

Three Star beat Brigade Boys Club (BBC) 2-0 on goals from Lok Bandhu Gurung and Nirajan Rayamajhi while Chun Bahadur Thapa scored the solitary in TAC’s 1-0 win over Sankata Club.

Three Star’s struggle continued as strikers finding hard to score despite getting opportunities. The former champions missed as many as six goal-scoring chances before defender Lok Bandhu Gurung put his team ahead in the 68th minute.

Gurung scored on an unintended pass from his teammate Yugal Kishor Rai inside the box. The 56th-minute substitute Nirajan Rayamajhi doubled the tally in the 72nd minute when he tapped in on Anjan KC’s cross.

Anjan KC of Nabil Three Star was adjudged the Adidas man of the match. Earlier BBC goalie Binod Gurung made four good saves against the Armymen. He dedenied Rajendra Tamang in the 14th minute and Bijay Gurung in the 31st minute. Binod made yet another save when he acrobatically punched out Sanjeev Budathoki’s drop-header in the 39th before denying Vijay Gurung in the 61st minute.

In a competitive second match, Sankata Club almost took lead 10 minutes into the match but Ranjeet Shrestha’s free kick rebounded after hitting the inner cross bar. The Armymen were lucky to have earned the three points after Chun Bahadur Thapa’s 30-yard shot sailed into the nets in the 53rd minute.
