Pokhara, January 16:
Skipper Surendra Tamang and Pralay Rajbhandari scored a goal each as Three Star Club defeated City Young of Dehradun 2-0 in the quarter-final of the third Aha Gold Cup Football Tournament today.
Three Star took lead through Tamang in the 30th minute when he dodged City Young goalkeeper before firing the ball into the net following Pravesh Katuwal’s pass. In the 83rd minute, Rajbhandari doubled the tally following a pass from substitute Ramesh Sinkeman inside the D-Box.
TSC, without its regular skipper and goalkeeper Upendra Man Singh, missed a couple of easy chances while the visitors made only two goal-threatening attempts during the match. TSC would have scored in the 12th minute had Santosh Sahukhala’s powerful shot not gone out hitting the back of City Young glovesman. In the 17th minute, Bijay Gurung muffed up a chance on Surendra Tamang’s cross. For City Young, Nageshwor Rao missed a chance following skipper Jatin Bedi’s pass but his attempt made from inside the D-Box went inches above the cross bar in the 29th minute.
“We lost today’s match because of poor show from our strikers. But I am happy that the team performed well against such a strong opponent,” said City Young coach Shekhar Pant after the match. On Monday, Manang Marsy-angdi Club will take on Sankata Club in a quarter-final match.
