DHANGADHI: Three Star Club advanced to the final of the sixth Sudurpashchim Chief Minister Khaptad Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Dhangadhi Stadium on Thursday.
The 10-man Three Star defeated hosts Sudurpashchim-XI 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation period. After a goalless first half, Bikram Lama opened the scoring in the 83rd minute before Madhav Bhandari levelled the scores in the first minute of the injury time.
Three Star were reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute after Dipesh Gurung was expelled for second bookable offense. In tie-breaker, Bikram Lama, Aditya Shakya, Sipamandala and Ashok Khawas scored for Three Star. Faguram Tharu and Maikal Shahi converted their kicks from the spot for the home team, while Three Star goalkeeper Mohammad Taha denied Bishnu Chaudhary and Binral Oli.
Three Star skipper Bikram Lama was named the player of the match and he earned Rs 10,000. Three Star will face defending champions Manang Marshyangdi Club in Saturday's final.
Top two teams will earn Rs 2.1 million and one million rupees respectively.
