In a match surrounded with a foul play at APF ground, Machhindra FC beat RCT 9-8.

and Gurung headed home a simple goal following Pradip Maharjan’s cross in the 66th minute. APF had beaten Three Star 2-1 in first leg.

Som Lama’s 25th minute spot kick was enough for Mahabir to stay alive in the league. Mahabir was awarded the spot kick after JYC defender Onyebuchi brought down Ikechikewu Akushie inside the box.

No bike for highest scorer: ANFA

KATHMANDU: In a latest turn of the events ANFA cancelled the highest scorer’s award sensing match-fixing between RCT and Machhindra Club on Monday.

The unusually high scoring match saw Rishi Rai score eight goals alone for RCT to be the leading scorer with Machhindra winning 9-8. Bikash Subba scored four, Buddha Chemjong netted three, Gudia Rai and Manoj Shahi added one each for Machhindra. Rai went on to top the scorers’ list with 25 goals, four more than Obagbimiro Junior and Janamat Karki. ANFA had announced a motorcycle each for six best individuals, but scraped the highest scorers’ award following the embarrassing ‘foul play’ between RCT and Machhindra. “We were forced to cancel the award this year after some teams were found killing the spirit of the sport,” said ANFA. — HNS
