Maurice Greene loses
CARSON: Maurice Greene lost to training partner Leonard Scott in the 100 metres, Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner won the 400m, and Olympic silver medallist Allyson Felix won the 200m at the Adidas Track Classic on Sunday. Scott overcame two false starts and a strong headwind to win in 10.03 seconds. Geene’s starting blocks slipped and he wound up fourth in 10.32. Terrence Trammell was second in 10.17. — AP
Dodd wins Irish Open
MAYNOOTH: Stephen Dodd won a playoff on the first hole to claim the title at the Irish Open, handing David Howell his second straight defeat in extra holes. Dodd, who shot a 68 to force sudden death at 9-under 279, birdied the first playoff hole for his second European PGA Tour win. He reached the par-5 18th in two and then two-putted from 30 feet for the birdie. Howell hit his second shot into the rough and failed to get up. — AP
FA charges Souness
LONDON: The English Football Association on Monday charged Newcastle manager Graeme Souness with bringing the game into disrepute for criticising referee Barry Knight. The Newcastle manager was critical of Knight after a 2-0 loss at Everton on May 7, when he sent off Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi for slapping Tim Cahill on the back of the head. Souness was also critical of Knight after he sent off three Magpies players earlier in a 3-0 loss to Aston Villa on April 2. — AP
UEFA select Gonzalez
GENEVA: Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez will referee Wednesday’s Champions League final between AC Milan and Liverpool in Istanbul. Oscar Martinez Samaniego and Clem-ente Ayete Plou will be his assistant referees, UEFA announced on Monday. The fourth official is Arturo Dauden Ibanez. All four are from Spain. Gonzalez is the third Spaniard to control a Champions League final. Gonzalez was among the 12 referees at Euro 2004 in Portugal. — AP
