LALITPUR: Rikesh Shrestha netted 10 points as Swarnim School defeated Rato Bangala School 20-8 and Gyanodaya Bal Batika School outplayed Prithvi School 31-20 with Kiran KC top-scoring with 19 points in the boys’ semi-finals at the Rato Bangala Junior Invitational School Basketball Tournament, today. On Saturday, Rato Bangala ‘A’ will take on its ‘B’ team in girls’ final. — HNS

‘C’ Division selection

KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is organising the selection tournament for the Martyrs’ Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football Tournament from May 24 at Sano Gaucharan ground. Serena pulls out

PARIS: Serena Williams pulled out of the French Open on Friday because of an ankle injury. Williams, the 2002 French Open champion, withdrew during a quarter-final at Amelia Island in April and then missed the German Open in early May. She lost her first match after returning at the Italian Open on May 11. Williams, ranked fourth in the world, is 15-4 overall this year and has reached at least the quarter-finals in her last four appearances at Roland Garros. — AP

Ex-Olympian jailed

CINCINNATI: Boxer Ricardo Williams, a silver medallist at the 2000 Olympics, was sentenced to three years in prison for his part in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Prosecutors said he and two other men tried to pick up a package of narcotics shipped to Cincinnati. Judge Arthur Spiegel also fined Williams $5,000. The 23-year-old welterweight turned pro after the Sydney Games and plans to keep boxing when released from prison. — AP
