Kim Clijsters in doubt
BRUSSELS: Kim Clijsters may miss the French Open as she struggles to recover from ligament damage to her right knee. Clijsters, a two-time runner-up at Roland Garros, will travel to Paris this week for intensive training sessions to test the injury she sustained at the German Open earlier this month. The two-week major opens on Monday. “If everything goes according to plan, I will start the tournament,” she said. — AP
Eto’o faces probe
MADRID: Spain’s soccer federation opened an investigation on Tuesday into FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o for taunting Real Madrid during his team’s league title celebrations. Eto’o used insulting language on Sunday, when he told 98,000 fans at Camp Nou stadium that his former club should honour the champion. The country’s Anti-Violence Commission will also consider whether Eto’o’s words could have incited violence. — AP
Singh returns to Fiji
NATADOLA HARBOUR: Vijay Singh said he wants to build “one hell of a golf course” and help bring an end to ethnic tensions in his native Fiji when he made his first visit to the Pacific nation in nine years. The course will be of PGA standard, and will start later this year and will be completed by 2007. Singh, the No 2-ranked golfer, said he’d accepted a Fiji government request to become a national goodwill ambassador and would meet PM Laisenia Qarase. — AP
