ANFA thanks all

Lalitpur: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) thanked all the associations and individuals for making the first AFC President’s Cup Football Tournament a grand success. ANFA president Ganesh Thapa also thanked the Chinese government for repairing the floodlights on time. Senior vice president Mahesh Bista delivered the welcome speech. Match washed out

Jhapa: The last league-round match between Yeti Airlines of Kathmandu and Khukuri Club of Bhairahawa at the third Binesh Burma Memorial National Cricket Tournament was washed out due to sudden rain. With the result, Yeti Airlines topped Pool B and entered the semi-finals ahead of Khukuri Club, while East West Overseas and Eastern Cricket Academy made it to the last four from Pool A. In Wednesday’s semi-final, East West Overseas will take on Khukuri Cricket Club at Mechi Stadium. — HNS

LALITPUR: Kiran and Norbu netted eight points each as Gyanodaya Bal Batika School defeated GEMS School 18-14 in boys’ section of the Rato Bangala Junior Invitational School Basketball Tournament, here today. ST POELTEN: Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko beat Michal Mertinak 6-3, 6-2 while Argentina’s Jose Acasuso eliminated No 3 Igor Andreev 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the BTM Power Grand Prix. New SL manager

COLOMBO: Former limited-over international batsman Michael Tissera has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s national cricket team manager. Tissera, 66, who played for Sri Lanka in three one-day matches in the 1975 World Cup replaces Brendon Kuruppu, SLC spokesman Ray Illangakoon said. Anura Tennakoon, a former national captain and cricket board chief executive, has been appointed manager to Sri Lanka’s ‘A’ team. — AP

Eto’o may be fined

MADRID: FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o may be fined by Spain’s Anti-Violence Commission for taunting Real Madrid during his team’s league title celebrations at the weekend. Eto’o used insulting language on Sunday, a day after Barca won the title, when he told 98,000 fans at Camp Nou stadium that his former club should honour the champion. — AP
