Triyuga beat Boys Club

LAHAN: Triyuga Sports Club defeated Boys Club 4-2 in the day’s match of the Sagarmatha Inter-zonal Gold Cup Football Tournament. Triyuga took lead in the fifth minute through Devendra Khadka. Later, Bishal Rai, Duryodhan Chaudhari and Rupak Khawas added one goal each. Saroj Rai and Teju Lama scored for Boys Club. PCB to appeal Inzy ban

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) intends to file an appeal against a one-Test ban on skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq after it receives the official notice from the ICC, the team manager said. Match referee Chris Broad slapped a one-Test ban on the Pakistani skipper after Inzamam pleaded guilty on the last day of the third and final Test against India in Bangalore. He was charged on two counts including “showing dissent over an umpire’s decision by action or verbal abuse” and “charging or advancing towards an umpire in an aggressive manner while appealing”. — HNS

Wayne Rooney cleared

MANCHESTER: A student who accused England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney of assaulting him in a nightclub won’t press charges, police said. Greater Manchester police had been investigating claims by the 22-year-old student Patrick Hanrahan that Rooney punched him three times in the head in the early hours of Tuesday, in a bar. The police said in a statement that the man did not want to pursue charges. — AP

Hyderabad: Pakistan warmed up for their upcoming one-day series against India with a comfortable eight-wicket win against India ‘A’ here on Wednesday. Opener Salman Butt and Shoaib Malik produced fluent knocks against the India side as Pakistan reached their target of 190 with four overs to spare. Left-handed Butt was cautious during his 124-ball 70, while Malik slammed a quickfire 81 not out off 78 balls. Earlier, Pakistan restricted India ‘A’ to 189-7 in 45 overs. Suresh Raina top-scored with 55 off 65 balls while Sridharan Sriram chipped in with 38. Naved-ul-Hasan Rana was the pick of the Pakistani attack as he struck two early blows with figures of 2-42. — AFP
