Bhabana Sunuwar defeated Chhitij Gurung 3-0 and Prasa Maharjan beat Krishna Thapa 3-1 and entered the women’s final of the Birthday Cup Squash Tournament, which has been organised by the Squash Academy of Nepal Squash Racket Assocition to mark the 34th birthday of Crown Prince Paras, here today. In under-14 boys’ event, Digbijay Singh beat Arant Sinha 2-0 and Amrit Thapa beat Ajjar Sinha 2-0 to advance to the final. Also, Mahendra Bahadur Singh and Deepak Bohara reached the final beating Madhuban Lal Maskey and Peetar Logan 3-0, 3-1 respectively among the veterans. — HNS

Dehradun down APF Club

Nageshwor Rao scored twice as City Young Football Club of Dehradun beat Gyanendra Armed Police Force (GAPF) Club 3-0 in the day’s match of the Aha Gold Cup Football Tournament. Though the policemen got a chance after the visitors handed the ball inside the D-Box, Ganesh Lawati failed to convert in the spot-kick. Dipen Thapa opened the scoring for the winners. Rang Vijay Singh of Dehradun was adjudged man of the match. On Thursday, Sankata Club will take on Dharan Football Club. — HNS

Capriati out of Aust Open

MELBOURNE:

Jennifer Capriati, a two-time winner of the Australian Open, has pulled out from this year’s first Grand Slam tournament with a shoulder injury. Capriati joins last year’s winner Justine Henin-Hardenne and losing finalist Kim Clijsters on the sidelines for the tournament that begins next Monday. — AP
