Bahundada Cup football

KATHMANDU: Young Star Club is organising the Bahundada Cup Football Tournament from August 23-30 in Bahundada, Lamjung. Around 24 teams from Lamjung, Manang and Tanahun districts will take part in the men’s tournament, said the organisers. The organisers are expecting 12 teams in women’s tournament. — HNS

Kriti, Kushal advance

KATHMANDU: Kriti Adhikari and Kushal Khadka advanced to the semi-finals in the men’s 25kg official fight on the inaugural day of the first Amar Singh Thapa Memorial Jitkundo Martial Arts Championships on Thursday. Joining them in the last four were Jivan Rai and Chhiring Tamang. Making it to the 36-42kg semis were Naresh Bhattarai, Hirakaji Rai, Krishna Lama and Sanjeev Khadka. Qualifying for the semis in men’s 25-31kg were Jivan Rai, Sunil Upadhyaya, Arjun Bhatta and Ram Krishna Budhathoki. Entering the semi-finals in the women’s 25-31kg section were Shanti Gurung, Janaki Lamshal, Payal Nepali and Tara Saud. Ritu Saud, Anju Khadka, Ashmita Subedi and Laxmi Gurung are also through to semi-finals in the women’s 36-42kg section. Kumar Bista, Anish Gurung, Bikash Shivakoti and Dipendra Kathayat made it to the semi-finals in the men’s Combat section. — HNS

Xavier thrash Radiant

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Xavier, Radiant Readers, Trungram International Academy (TIA), Lyceum, Gyan Niketan and hosts Grammar ‘B’ entered the quarter-finals of the Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Kathmandu Xavier overwhelmed Radiant Readers 69-22 but Radiant also advanced despite the loss. In other matches, Lyceum defeated Cambridge 58-28; Grammar ‘B’ thrashed Blooming Scholars 46-10; TIA outplayed Gauri Shankar 67-27; Gyan Niketan beat AIA 53-14. Grammar ‘A’ and Unique are already in the last eight. — HNS

Prashant, Roshan triumph

KATHMANDU: Prashant Chalise and Roshan Duwal of Nepal recorded double wins in the Friendly Chess Tournament against Lions Kamarupa Academy here today. Prashant defeated Dewarshi Goswami in the sixth round match before seeing off Jyotimoi Goswami in the seventh. Roshan also earned two points for the home team with wins over Rachin Chauhan and Abhinav Patwari. After the completion of the seventh round, Nepal have accumulated 44.5 while Kamarupa have earned only 11.5 points. — HNS

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan

DAMBULLA: Seamers Thilan Thushara and Nuwan Kulasekera ripped through Pakistan’s top order as Sri Lanka won the first ODI by 36 runs here on Thursday. Left-armer Thushara finished with 3-29 and Kulasekera took 2-30 as Pakistan struggled against Sri Lanka’s 232-9 and were bowled out for 196 in 44.4 overs. — AFP
