Judo tourney concludes

KATHMANDU: Sandip Shrestha of GEMS won the 25-kg weight category title in the Open Judo Tournament, organised by Nepal Judo Association to mark the 58th birthday of King Gyanendra here today. The event was divided into 14 weight categories where Prakash Shrestha, Santosh Sunuwar, Bijaya Lama, Pramod Rauniyar, Bikash Singh, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Jeet Bahadur Tamang, Subrat Shrestha, Sher Bahadur Rana Magar, Khem Rana, Sabina Lama, Samjhana Rai, Niru and Devu Thapa won the titles in their respective weight categories. — HNS

Volleyball tourney ends

KATHMANDU: Institute of Engineering, Pokhara defeated IOE, Pulchowk in the men’s section, and IOE, Pulchowk defeated Nursing College, Maharajgunj in the women’s section finals of the Inter-technical College Volleyball Tournament here today. The event was organised by Technical Students’ Association of Nepal (TSAN). Gita Bhakta Joshi, registrar of TU, and Rajendra Kumar Rai, president of ANNFSU, gave away prizes to the winners. — HNS

Scolari eyes World Cup

LISBON: One hour after losing the Euro 2004 final to Greece 1-0, coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was already eyeing something he knows much better — winning the World Cup. As heartbreaking as Sunday’s final to Greece was, the Brazilian immediately looked at Portugal’s good run through the tournament and said it would serve well in World Cup qualifying. He won the title as Brazil coach in 2002 and now wants to become the first to win soccer’s premier event for two different nations. — AFP
